The annual "Dadaloba" festival will be held in Indurta (in Tsovata) on Sunday 5 August. --- This day - now a "supra"-style feast attended by a handful of Bats - apparently used to be a sort of "day of judgement" (the name's etymology). Incredibly, according to what I have been told, crimes in ancient Tsovata basically went unjudged (and therefore unpunished) until a decision was made during this one day in August. On "dadaloba", a meeting attended by all the village headmen - usually the heads of the Bats families - passed judgement upon crimes committed during the previous year. --- Expect a "dori" (a horse-race), music, and feasting.

I have just read your entry and I shall be in Verkhovani on Aug 5 for 3 days How far is the Dadaloba festival. I will have 6 horses my family and two guides oh yes and a tent. Our trip over two weeks will go from Sheko ,Darlto , Chescho.I would be very interested to know what sort of time such a trip might take and how far. Your blogg is excellent, I've been trying to find out about the Bat people for ages.
Cheers Chris
Verkhovani is about a kilometre W of Dzhvarboseli in the Gometsari Valley, so about 15km from Indurta in the Tsovatistsqali valley, where the Dadaloba will be held. Type the name into the search box at http://nona.net/features/map/
I'm not sure how long your planned trip would take (I've never been to Tusheti!), but I will try to find out for you.
(And by the way: I think a festival will be held in Parsma on 9 August.)
Thanks for reading the blog!

Alex,
Just found your reply and I'm sorry we did not make it . We were in Pasma ( some call it Fasma)on the 4th Aug and expect to go back in 2008. Tusheti is one of the most magnificent places on the planet . We have been invited to return to Shenako this year for copious quantities of cha cha thanks for your help.
Cheers chris
